One EU framework, three national rulebooks
The Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg work under the same EU medicines law. A medicinal product may be placed on the market only once it holds a marketing authorisation. That authorisation is issued either centrally, by the European Commission acting on a recommendation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), or by the agency of a single member state. A central authorisation is valid in all three Benelux countries alike.
The legal definition of a medicinal product has two limbs. The first is presentation: a product offered as a treatment for, or protection against, disease in humans. The second is function: a substance given to people in order to restore, correct or modify physiological functions by pharmacological, immunological or metabolic action. Research peptides are sold on the footing that neither limb applies. The material is supplied for cell and animal work, carries a research-use-only label, comes without treatment claims or dosing instructions, and holds no marketing authorisation.
After the sale, national law takes over. Possession, personal import and use are regulated country by country, enforcement against particular compounds varies, and institutions add purchasing and safety rules of their own. This page does not set out Dutch, Belgian or Luxembourg law in detail and is not legal advice: check the national rules and those of your institution before you order. Nobody inspects the vial before you do
Research chemicals go through no pre-market approval. No agency has assessed how the lot was made and no pharmacist releases it. Quality control therefore rests on two parties. The supplier produces the evidence, which is a certificate of analysis (CoA) for each production lot. The buyer reads that document and confirms that it belongs to the vial on the bench.
The product is physically modest: a few milligrams of lyophilised, meaning freeze-dried, powder in a sealed glass vial. Most of this briefing therefore deals with documents and only a small part with parcels. Supplier checklist: seven points to settle before ordering
Each point below can be checked from a product page and a sample certificate, before any money changes hands.

A supplier that clears all seven has not shown that every vial is flawless. It has handed you the means to check one.
On the purity figure itself: for reproducible work an HPLC purity of 98% is a reasonable floor and 99% or higher is preferable. King Peptides, the shop that the order links on this site lead to, lists an HPLC purity of 98% or higher for every product on its lab reports page and 99% or higher for most of them. The listed exceptions are tesamorelin, GHK-Cu and MOTS-c at 98% or higher, and selank at 98.88% or higher. The shop supplies a lot-specific CoA with HPLC and mass spectrometry for every lot. What a lot-specific certificate must show
A certificate is lot-specific when it reports measurements made on the production lot that filled your vial. Four items have to be present.
- The lot number. Identical, character for character, to the number printed on the vial label.
- An HPLC result with its chromatogram. The trace, the retention time of the main peak and the purity percentage calculated from it. A bare percentage cannot be examined.
- A mass spectrometry result. The observed mass, set beside the theoretical molecular weight of the peptide.
- The laboratory. The name of the laboratory that ran the analysis.
The two measurements answer different questions. HPLC reports how clean the sample is; mass spectrometry reports whether the molecule is the one named on the label. A chromatogram of the wrong peptide can look just as clean as one of the right peptide, so turn down a certificate that lacks mass data, and equally one that is not tied to a lot.

Delivery inside the Benelux
All three Benelux countries sit inside the EU customs union. Goods already in free circulation move between member states with no customs declaration and no import duty. A parcel from the Netherlands to Belgium or Luxembourg therefore never meets a customs officer. There is nothing to clear, nothing to pay on the doorstep and no reason for the parcel to wait in a customs warehouse.

Carriers and public holidays affect real transit times, so schedule an experiment with a margin and not around the shortest figure. For the material itself a few days on the road is no great concern: lyophilised peptides generally cope with an ordinary courier journey at ambient temperature. The hazard is prolonged heat, not the 3–5 business days to Belgium or Luxembourg.
One caution. The absence of a customs check says nothing about the legal status of the contents. The law of the country of arrival applies to the vial whether or not anyone inspected the parcel.
What is in the parcel, and the first three checks
Expect small glass vials, each sealed by a rubber stopper under a crimped cap. Inside is a white or off-white powder, often a compact cake or a thin film on the bottom. GHK-Cu is the exception, because its bound copper turns it blue. Ten milligrams of freeze-dried peptide occupies very little volume, so a vial that looks almost empty is usually in order.
- Match the paperwork. Read the lot number off every vial and find the same number on its CoA. File the certificate with your laboratory records.
- Inspect seal and powder. The seal should be intact and the powder dry. Material that has gone sticky or glassy may have drawn in moisture.
- Freeze. The vials go into a dark freezer at −20 °C on the day they arrive. A bench or a desk is not storage.

When the same molecule is also a pharmacy medicine
Some compounds sold for research exist in authorised form too. Tirzepatide is authorised in the EU as Mounjaro, and semaglutide under three names: Ozempic, Wegovy and Rybelsus. All are prescription-only medicines, and because EU authorisations come through the EMA they hold in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg alike.
A research vial labelled semaglutide or tirzepatide is a different product, even where the peptide inside is the same molecule. It comes without a marketing authorisation and without patient information, and it has no role in treatment. The molecule is a licensed medicine; the research material is not. If you compete in sport
Anyone bound by the World Anti-Doping Code answers to the WADA Prohibited List, which is revised every year and takes effect on 1 January. Several peptides profiled here are on it.
- S0, non-approved substances: BPC-157, named there since 2022.
- S2, peptide hormones, growth factors, related substances and mimetics: GHRH analogues such as CJC-1295 and tesamorelin; growth hormone secretagogues, among them ipamorelin, GHRP-2, GHRP-6 and hexarelin; thymosin beta-4 and its derivatives, TB-500 included; IGF-1 and its analogues.
Everything in S0 and S2 is banned at all times, not only in competition. The rules run on strict liability: a prohibited substance in a sample establishes the violation, and intent need not be proved. How the substance got there can change the length of a sanction but not the finding. Possession can count as a violation by itself. Testing is done by national anti-doping organisations and by international federations, and it reaches beyond full-time professionals.

Quick answers
Will a parcel from the Netherlands be held at customs on its way to Belgium or Luxembourg? No. All three countries are inside the EU customs union, so the route involves no declaration, no clearance and no import duty.
How many days should I allow? Within the Netherlands usually 1–2 business days, to Belgium and Luxembourg 3–5 business days, by tracked parcel. These are the shop’s estimates; carriers and public holidays can stretch them, so keep a margin.
The vial looks almost empty. Has something gone wrong? Probably not. Ten milligrams of lyophilised peptide is a thin cake or film. Check instead that the seal is intact, the powder is dry and the lot number matches the certificate.
